Everest FAQ's

  • What is the difference between a sports therapy and a sports massage treatment?
A sports therapy is specifically aimed at treating injuries and conditions sustained as a result of sport, work or systemic disorders.  A sports therapy treatment will include a detailed assessment and treatment for the condition.

Sports massage is aimed more towards preventing injury and relieving tension and tightness.  A consultation will also be carried out for sports massage, though it will be much shorter.

  • How do I get to there?
Everest is based at Footwise Podiatry and Physiotherapy clinic, Boldmere Road, Sutton Coldfield.  Our full address with postcode is available on our contact us page.  Car parking is available for drivers and for public transport users, Wylde Green rail station is a short walk away and the 66A and 869 buses both stop along Boldmere Road.

  • What should I wear to a treatment?
Feel free to wear whatever feels comfortable to the session.  But please bring suitable clothing with you to change into for your physical assessment and your treatment.  Suitable clothing includes shorts and a sports bra (or bikini) for female clients.

  • I feel uncomfortable/ my religion prevents me from removing clothing, can I be treated with my clothes on?
Although we cannot massage through clothes, we are happy to massage areas where you find it acceptable for skin to be exposed.  For example, we can massage the neck and shoulder area, the feet and areas where the sleeves or trouser leg can be rolled up.  However we are unable to provide sports therapy treatment as this requires a detailed examination of the area.

  • How many treatments will I need?
The amount of sports therapy treatment sessions needed to rehabilitate your condition depends on many factors.  The main factors include: the condition itself and the area of the body it is affecting, and your age, fitness and gender.  We usually recommend a 6 week block of sessions, though some may recover much more quickly and others will take longer.

  • What will happen after my treatment?
At the end of your treatment your therapist will chat with you about how the session and recommend aftercare advice for you to follow.  Aftercare may include rest, exercise, ice, heat, compression and suggested lifestyle adaptations.  The aftercare advice is not obligatory, but in most cases it will greatly enhance the benefits of your treatment.

  • Can sports therapy help my neck or back problems?
Yes! Sports therapy can not only relieve back and neck pain with heat and massage, but also reduce and prevent further pain with specialised exercises to strengthen and improve flexibility in the back.

  • How long does a sports therapy session last?
Your first sports therapy session includes a full consultation and will last approximately 1 hour.  Follow up session durations depend on your condition and will be decided between you and your therapist.  Follow up sessions are 1 hour or 30 minutes.

  • How long does a sports massage session last?
Sports massage sessions can be booked in 30 minute or 1 hour sessions.  During a 30 minute session a few specific areas are massaged and during a 1 hour session more areas may be massaged.

  • Are all the therapists fully qualified?
Yes.  All therapists hold a Bachelor of Science Degree in Sports Therapy with Honours and are insured members of the Federation of Holistic Therapists (FHT).  You can find our therapists on the ‘find my therapist’ page of the FHT’s website.
